September '08 Newsletter

Hello everyone!

(See below for studio closing dates, testing dates and upcoming events information. Please read all the way through.)

It's the end of the summer already! Students are going back to school, parents who have been looking forward to that are suddenly missing their kids again. The cycle continues.

For any parents that need a copy of the introduction letter for the Colors of Character to give to your child's new teacher, please ask someone in the office to get you one.

It's been a busy summer, with various demonstrations, parades, clinics, etc., going on. We even held our first ever 4th of July Chalfont Family BBQ! The good news is that it's not going to slow down one bit!

In the next few months, we'll be holding Women's Self Defense classes at various locations, Boy and Girl Scout demonstrations, and possibly several school fair demonstrations! We will also again be holding our "Workout in the Park" and our annual "Turkey Day Workout."

Upcoming Events

Scheduled for September is a Weapons Clinic. On Saturday, September 27th, Starting at 1:00 PM at the Chalfont studio, Master Madore, 7th degree black belt, will be teaching a Weapons Clinic. The SAI "A" and Chinese Broad Sword "B" will be taught. Fees will be listed below. Students should speak to their instructors to order the correct size and type of weapon if they wish to participate. Do this soon as they will have to be ordered!

There will be a Knife Throwing Clinic on Saturday, October 25th, starting at 1:00 PM. The clinic fee will include 3 special throwing knives, as well as a target to take home for practice. Students may bring any object they wish to learn how to throw at a target.

On Saturday, November 15th, we will be holding a Breaking Clinic for all students brown belt or above. Master Madore will be teaching anyone who attends some breaking techniques, and proper breathing exercises that will help. This clinic will start at 1:00 PM at the Chalfont Studio.

Students should contact their instructor to make sure they get the right materials needed to break.

A Knife Throwing Tournament will be held on November 15th as well. Beginning at 3:00, ANY student who has taken ANY of the knife throwing clinics may compete and demonstrate his or her skills, competing for a trophy and bragging rights!

And finally, Master Madore and Master Pfister will be conducting a MASTERS CLINIC in which Defense against the BAT, CLUB, KNIFE and GUN will be taught. This clinic will be held on Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 at the Chalfont studio. A KIDS Clinic will begin at 1:00 and the Teens and Adults clinic will start at 2:00 PM

Register early for any of these clinics in which you wish to participate, as we may have to limit the number of participants depending on location and activity. Some clinics require special equipment to be ordered in advance. Please register for the clinics of your choice as early as possible to assure the right materials will be available.

See the bottom of this newsletter for details on all the clinics.

The 2nd Annual "Workout in the Park" will be held on Sunday, October 4th at 8 AM at the same park where we held the 4th of July BBQ (Highland Park). Bring your sparring gear if you have it, full uniforms and belts. This year, any age and all ranks of Brown or higher are invited. Leadership Program students of any rank are also invited.

I would like to send out a congratulations to Instructor and owner Scott Johnson who recently opened up his own studio in Harleysville. We've been looking for locations for almost 2 years now, and Mr. Johnson finally found one that suited our needs. Mr. Johnson is working hard to promote his studio in his area and I would like to ask that anyone who might be interested in going up and helping to hand out flyers, or put advertisements on car windows with Mr. Johnson on any upcoming Saturday, please send an e-mail to akaskip123@comcast.net. ANY help is appreciated and getting a team of 3 or 4 students to go up and help would go a long way! (If a Saturday doesn't work for you, but you would still like to offer to help, e-mail him with any dates that you are available and perhaps he can put together a small crew for then!)

Special congratulations to Dotty Moore, instructor at the Chalfont Studio. In September 2008, Dot will have been teaching on Friday nights for 5 years! In a position that must include knowledge, skill and personality, Dot has excelled consistently for a lot longer than many other Karate schools even stay open! Keep up the good work Dot! (To all students who have trained with Dotty over the years, let her know you appreciate it with a homemade card, or just a "thank you")
