Ray Waity retired from the United States Army in August 1994, after 28 years of active duty.The Pennsylvania native, who graduated from St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelpia and from The University of Scranton began his army career in 1966 as a lieutenant of Military Intelligence following infantry and airborne training at Fort Benning, GA. He held a variety of operational and command positions in Germany, Viet Nam and Saudi Arabia. With experience as both a batallion and brigade level commander, he knows the value of leadership and mentorship and is able to bring these values to his teaching programs. Waity holds Masters Degrees from Webster College (1976) and the US Naval War College (1989).

Waity began his study of the martial arts in 1963 and in 1965, as a brown belt, founded the Karate Club at the University of Scranton. His study of the martial arts includes military close quarter combat and the traditional Karate and Jiu Jitsu. Since 1988, he has been a student of Shaolin Kempo Karate, the system which he teaches at the Hampden Centre studio. He received his Fourth Degree Black Belt certification in November 2001 from Grandmaster Frederick J. Villari. He has recently attained Master status with the award of his Fifth Degree Black Belt.
